Catriona Matthew: Solheim Cup victory would be career highlight

Catriona Matthew believes leading Europe at Gleneagles would be her greatest achievement in golf.
A Solheim Cup participant, matthew, captains a strong aspect in Scotland, in which the hosts are wanting to prevent a third consecutive defeat in the biennial contest.
The 50-year-old finished winning Solheim Cup sides throughout an illustrious acting career, although feels victory those previous successes would be gazumped by this week and won the 2009 Women’s British Open.
„I believe it [Solheim Cup triumph ] would be appropriate at the top,“ Matthew explained. „I have always adored the Solheim Cup. It’s been the highlight of my profession every two years as soon as it comes about.
„One of my best moments have been in the Solheim, plus I think to be a fighter that is winning at Gleneagles in Scotland would position just about over my British Open triumph.
„It’s great that it’s finally here. It’s been, in some respects, a couple of years and I think these next couple of days will only fly past“
Matthew’s closing Solheim Cup appearance came in Europe’s 16.5-11.5 conquer two years ago, if the Scot made the last-minute switch from vice-captain to player to replace the wounded Suzann Pettersen.
Team USA have drafted in Ally McDonald to take more than Stacy Lewis and have now been forced into a similar adjustment ahead of this year’s competition, leaving the people.
„Obviously that’s tough for them and disappointing,“ Matthew added. „We had been in the exact same situation last time together with Suzann [Pettersen]. I’m sorry for Stacy [Lewis].
„You’ve got that type of connection of getting on the group, being picked, and not being able to play because you are hurt is unlucky for them. Obviously Ally McDonald is player that is solid, a fantastic player. They have an able replacement there.
„I guess being a rookie it is a small unknown quantity. They’re all great players, but you’ve seen in the past some rookies come from and excel. Then other rookies who unfortunately just have found it a little all a bit too much“
Although Dame Laura Davies is behind her inclusion as a captain’s pick, despite making three competitive begins considering November 2017 pettersen returns for Europe and leaves her ninth Solheim Cup appearance.
„Why would not you want Suzann Pettersen in your team?“ Davies explained. „She hasn’t played a huge number of tournaments, however, game play is extremely different. You don’t have to run together 72 holes.
„In the end it might be hard for somebody who hasn’t played, but 18 hole match play I Had back Suzann [Pettersen] each moment. In the event you have Suzann or a different participant on the sheet, you may rather play with the player.
„Suzann could be rather tricky out there. It is good for all of us. It is amazing that she brings that reputation to our team, and I would never overlook Suzann Pettersen ever.“
