The Cleveland Cavaliers are in an enviable position.
If the blockbuster deal goes through, they’ll have a point guard in Isaiah Thomas who is coming off a year in which he outperformed Kyrie Irving (by a considerable amount) during the regular season.
Even when the trendy of the new acquisition remains problematic, LeBron James will be able to withstand more responsibilities, while Kevin Love and Jae Crowder staff up to maintain the 2016 winners. Let’s not overlook the impact of incorporating Ante Zizic as depth.
If the trade is vetoed due to Thomas’ health, the Cavaliers will soldier on with a malcontent Irving or find a taker for the point guard. They’ll stay filled with talent.
This offseason is going to be deemed a failure if they can not locate a massive yield for Irving–and the Thomas swap certainly qualifies as such–since fixing their main difficulty (defense) wasn’t exactly done together with the additions of Derrick Rose, Jose Calderon and Jeff Green. But they can score with aplomb, and that should make them heavy favorites to win 54 games.
As his age swells, james does not appear to have declined. Love enjoys more chemistry than and Tristan Thompson is improving. It’s one and most of the pieces fit together nicely, although this may be an old roster.
